A 12-year-old Pakistani student with learning disabilities in New York was first bullied by his classmates, then he was bullied by the teachers.
First, his classmates bullied him because of his Muslim religion and Pakistani nationality. Then, the school took it further and forced the child to write a fake confession saying he is a member of ISIS and is planning to detonate a bomb at the school.
The student, Nashwan Uppal, has a “known social, language and learning disability” that includes “severely impaired language skills” and “significant weaknesses” in cognitive development. The older students would follow him around and ask where he was from and if he was going to blow something up. They also called him a terrorist.
In an attempt to get the harassment to stop, Uppal said he’s a terrorist and said he would blow up the fence. However, because of his disabilities, he confused the word terrorist with tourist.
The next day, he was pulled out of gym class and the principal coerced him into signing a statement.
The child was forced into a harsh interrogation from his school officials. Assistant Principal Jason Stanton repeatedly asked the boy if he was a terrorist and if he made bombs. When the boy said “No,” Stanton yelled “Don’t lie to us.”
The boy and his mother were forced to go to the police station. The boy has been suspended for a week for “criminal behavior.”
The boy’s parents are suing the school.
Their Attorney, David Antwork said:
“The defendants trampled on…Nashwan’s civil rights, berated and humiliated him by forcing Nashwan to confess to crimes which he did not commit while ignoring the fact that he was incessantly bullied and had known social, language and learning disabilities.”
The Muslim hate has gotten out of control. How could those school officials not tell that the boy didn’t know what was going on?
