Oh, Jeez. Trump Turns To Fox News’ Sean Hannity for Advice On Immigration Policy (Video)

Aw, jeez. We’re in more trouble with this election than we even realized.

We know that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump wants to build a wall to keep out those raping Mexicans, and he plans to make them pay for it. We have heard him say that all undocumented immigrants have to go back where they came from.

It’s not that simple, though. He has said that he doesn’t approve of amnesty, even for people who have lived and worked here for decades.

Yeah, but. He claimed in July that Mitt Romney was a meanie when he didn’t want to support a path to citizenship for undocumented workers. A path to citizenship that most of us call “amnesty.”

So, OK, on the one hand this whole immigration question is enormously complex and difficult to grasp. Tump’s ideas may be (ahem) evolving as he studies the economic, social, historical, and moral issues around immigration. These questions are bound up in the politics of who to let in to the U.S., who to allow to stay, how to decide who stays, and who enforces deportations.

It’s a complex, convoluted, deeply emotional issue. Trump seems to be changing his positions on an almost hourly basis, but a fair minded person like me can understand that.

I mean, the man has absolutely no experience in dealing with immigration issues, lawmaking, deportation or the luring of undocumented workers to projects in the U. S.  (Unless of course you include the undocumented, unskilled workers who helped to break ground for the lovely Trump Tower.)

The fact that Trump is looking for guidance from more experienced people is a good thing, right?

It would be, I guess, if he was talking to actual experts in the field of immigration. Trump had a different expert in mind, though, when he sought guidance on how to shape his immigration policy less than three months before the actual election.

Midiaite reports that Donald Trump appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program. When the topic of how to handle illegal immigration was raised, Trump deferred to the Fox News talking head. He asked if Hannity thought an exception to the “everyone has to go” policy could be given to “someone who is terrific.” He turned to the never been elected to any office Hannity and asked:

“Can we go through a process or do you think they have to get out? Tell me?  I mean, I don’t know, you tell me.”

Um. Really?

Does he think that “terrific” is a quantifiable measure? What about not so terrific but brilliant young students? What about babies who haven’t had a chance to prove to anyone whether or not they’re terrific?

More importantly, why the hell is he asking Sean Hannity for guidance on his immigration policy?

Insanity.

We are in so much trouble here, folks. I don’t know about you, but I’m not real comfortable with having a news commentator shaping national policy.
