As If She Couldn’t Get Any More Awesome… Hillary Clinton Had A Role In Making Emergency Contraceptives Accessible (VIDEO)

Back in 2008, the now Democratic presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton, helped to get emergency contraception available over the counter.

Susan Wood, a former assistant commissioner for women’s health at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), resigned in 2005 because she wasn’t able to make decisions for women’s health based on actual science. She believes that making Plan B available over the counter would prevent unwanted pregnancies.

The drug has to be taken within 72-hours of having unprotected sex. It can stop abortions by preventing pregnancies from happening in the first place. Many women were finding it impossible to get to the doctor in time, so Wood thought the Plan B pill should be available over-the-counter.

Wood said this about Hillary Clinton:

“I was struck by the leadership that Hillary Clinton displayed. She used the tools of a U.S. senator and fought ardently to preserve the FDA’s independent scientific decision-making authority. Many other senators and congressmen agreed, but she was the one who took the lead, saying she simply wanted the FDA to be able to make decisions based on its public health mission and on the medical evidence.”

It was thanks to Hillary Clinton that we can buy emergency contraception over-the-counter. You just have to be over the age of 18.

It is exactly 10 years later, and we’ve made strides in women’s health.

This is not the only awesome thing that Hillary Clinton has done in the area of reproductive health. This year, she is fighting against the Hyde Amendment, which would allow the government to fund abortions.

At her famous speech in China, she said:

“…Women’s rights and human rights and human rights are women’s rights.”

She also warned against religion taking over the fight for women’s rights:

“Many more companies will claim religious beliefs. Some will be sincere, others maybe not. We’re going to see this one insurable service cut out for many women. This is a really bad, slippery slope.”

Here she is talking about:
