LATEST POLL Shows Growing Lead For Hillary Clinton

The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll shows a trend that has been taking place since the Democratic convention ended last month: Hillary Clinton is building on what was already a significant lead and is now up by double digits, 45 to 33 percent over GOP nominee Donald Trump. This is the largest lead Clinton has enjoyed in the month of August.

In previous Reuters/Ipsos polls, Clinton’s lead had ranged from 3 to 9 points, so her 12 point lead seems to be pointing to what many are predicting: a landslide win and long coattails which could turn control of the United States Senate over to the Democrats.

Not all the news in the poll was good, however: 22 percent of those polled said they would not choose to vote for either of the candidates. Tom Smith, who directs the Center for the Study of Politics and Society at the University of Chicago, commented:

“Those who are wavering right now are just as likely to be thinking about supporting a third-party candidate instead, and not between Clinton and Trump.”

In addition to the good news from the national Reuter/Ipsos poll, polls from two key states also have positive numbers for the Clinton camp:

  • In Florida, Clinton now holds a 14-point lead over Trump, 48 to 38 percent
  • In new New Mexico, Clinton is also beating Trump. She wins in a head-to-head matchup with the Orange Menace, 40 to 31 percent

No matter where you look on the current electoral map, there is no good news for Trump or the Republicans. Trump is pulling the party down and may indeed lead to the death of the GOP before the election is over with. Good! It couldn’t happen to more deserving jerks.
