BOOM! Bill Nye Slams CNN Meteorologist On Air (VIDEO)

Bill Nye is the science guy. Every kid in the America knows that. He’s geeky, he’s appealing, he’s kid friendly.

He is the host of the eternally popular PBS show ‘Bill Nye the Science Guy.’

He’s also an honest-to-God scientist, and he isn’t afraid to stand up for scientific truth.

Mediaite reports that the science guy was brought onto CNN’s New Day to talk about the floods in Louisiana. The flooding has caused devastating destruction in the low lying Baton Rouge area, with more than 60,000 homes badly damaged.

Nye talked about the floods, saying that although he can’t say with certainty what has caused them, he has clear ideas about what will happen in the future. He said:

“I don’t have the answer to this, but it’s going to get worse. It’s certainly going to get worse. As the ocean gets warmer — which it is getting — it expands… [M]olecules spread apart. And then as the sea surface is warmer, water evaporates. And so, it’s very reasonable that these storms are connected to these big effects.”

Like almost every scientist alive today, Nye believes that climate change is being driven by human activity. He is aware of the dangers caused by the rise in global temperatures, like the recent floods, and is determined to sound the alarm about the treacherous situation that faces the world.

Toward the end of his interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo, Nye seemed to pause, gathering his thoughts. He turned to the host and said,

“And you know, here at CNN you have, essentially, a climate change denier meteorologist. Knock yourselves out, but this is a big problem and it’s not going to go away.”

Although Nye didn’t name anyone at CNN, it is obvious to those who watch the station that he was referring to meteorologist Chad Myers. The CNN weather guru has expressed his doubts about the reality of climate change in the past, although admitting that the globe is clearing getting warmer.

It was clear in the interview that Nye was hoping to engage Chris Cuomo in a discussion of the perils of climate denial, with Chad Myers as the focal point.

Cuomo proved too slick for him, though, pivoting smoothly away from the controversy by saying simply,

“Another conversation for another day.”

For those of us like the people facing the floods in Louisiana who wonder just how many days we have left, it seemed like a pretty glib response.
