WATCH: Massachusetts Man Caught On Camera In Kidnap Attempt Of One-Year-Old Boy

A 37-year-old man in Braintree, Massachusetts – Stephen O’Brien – was arrested last Friday after he was caught on camera attempting to kidnap a child from a grocery store, according to CBS Boston.

O’Brien was seen entering a grocery store on Quincy Avenue, without a shirt grabbing a one-year-old boy, and placing him over his shoulder before “walking towards the back of the store.”

The child’s father was in close distance and saw the man attempting to kidnap his son.

In the video, the father can be seen confronting the man for a brief second before O’Brien handed the boy over.

The father immediately alerted a store employee, Mehtab Ahmed, about the kidnap attempt.

Ahmed walked outside of the store and spotted the suspect – that’s when O’Brien attempted to flee.

O’Brien ran into a wooded area near the store and the employee followed.

Ahmad said:

“He had access right to the woods, came through had gone down this small little alley way through here.”

When the employee caught up with the suspect, he was found clinging to a tree.

The employee said:

“When he heard the sirens, he started falling down and then when the first approaching officer came in, he was right here and I think he was arrested right over here.”

When Braintree police officials arrived at the scene, Fox 25 Boston reported that:

“The suspect had a disturbing, blank look in his eyes, appearing to be under the influence of some type of narcotic.”

Kristie Linscott, who lives near O’Brien, said that he has a “history of drug use.”

Linscott added:

“His drug use, his brains gone. I’m not surprised he’s doing things like this at all. The scariest part is I don’t feel like he has any comprehension of what he’s done because of the drug use.”

O’Brien was charged with:

“Kidnapping and resisting arrest after physically resisting officer’s attempts to place him in custody.”

He is being held at the county jail on a $100,000 bond, and he is due back in court in September.
