Will Potential Clinton Foundation Hack Trouble Hillary’s Campaign? (TWEETS, VIDEO)

Was there a recent Clinton Foundation hack? According to Reuters, the charitable foundation seems to believe it is a possibility. They hired a security firm, FireEye, to delve into their computer systems and determine if this was the case. Reuters sources have stated that at present, no Clinton Foundation documents have leaked.

Clinton Foundation Hack?

No definitive details are currently available. Speculation, however, abounds. You’ll recall that last month brought us the DNC Leaks and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) hacks. Officials close to the matter believe that the hackers used the same “spear phishing” techniques that enabled those breaches to target the Clinton Foundation. They also point the finger at Russia. From the Reuters report:

“Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the U.S. officials said the hackers used the same techniques Russian intelligence agencies or their proxies employed against the Democratic Party groups, which suggests that Russians also attacked the foundation.”

It is important to note that there is currently no information tying Russia directly to any of these incidents. Russia has repeatedly denied any involvement. The goal of the possible attacks is also unknown. One source that spoke to Reuters is of the opinion that their purpose was for routine espionage. Some fear (or hope, depending on their point of view) that someone is trying to gain information that will influence the Presidential elections. As always, Twitter detractors had their own input to give:

More Leaks To Come?

As others have pointed out, the big question on our minds is whether or not there is any information that will prove shady dealings between the Clinton Foundation and the State Department during the time that Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State. As of yet, no definitive proof has come to light.

The recent slew of cyber-security issues has caused trepidation among Democratic leaders. You’ll recall that a hacker leaked more DCCC documents Monday. The DCCC met Wednesday to strategize about improving their security methods. It seems the cat-and-mouse hacking games are just warming up. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what comes of them.

For their part, Hillary Clinton’s detractors certainly don’t seem like they’ll be letting off the Clinton Foundation anytime soon:
