A Haunting Performance By Pianist Ludovico Einaudi Performed In The Most Chilling Setting (VIDEO)

While floating on a platform in Svalbard, Norway, surrounded by a crumbling glacier, pianist Ludovico Einaudi played Elegy of the Arctic on a baby grand. This haunting performance brings a strong reminder of how fragile the Earth has become and how it seems to be crumbling at the hands of the people who inhabit it.

As you watch the video, you are not only moved by the song written specifically for this occasion by Einaudi himself but by the sounds and sights happening all around him.

As he strikes deep and meaningful keys on the piano sections of the glacier continue to crumble around him giving the understanding that no matter where we stand, the Earth will continue to fall around us if we don’t push for better environmental awareness.

After the performance Einaudi commented on the experience stating:

“Being here has been a great experience. I could see the purity and fragility of this area with my own eyes and interpret a song I wrote to be played upon the best stage in the world. It is important that we understand the importance of the Arctic, stop the process of destruction and protect it.”

The video was produced by and for GreenPeace who has started a worldwide initiative called Voices For The Arctic which is solely dedicated to protecting and saving the fragile Arctic environment.

GreenPeace posted a reply to the beautiful yet haunting video saying:

“Ludovico Einaudi has turned eight million voices into music, Elegy for the Arctic, specially composed to help protect what we love. As he performed this piece for the first time — in front of a magnificent surging glacier — the music echoed across the ice, a moment that will remain in our minds forever. The timing of Einaudi’s performance is not by chance. This week, delegates at the OSPAR Commission meeting in Tenerife, Spain, have an opportunity to take an important step in protecting the Arctic. The proposal before them would safeguard 10% of the Arctic Ocean, an area roughly the size of the UK.”

Listen and watch this video and take in the devastating ongoing destruction we are inflicting on this beautiful and majestic part of our planet.
