A Lifelong Republican Wrote A Letter To His Little Girl About Donald Trump

This letter is from David Bershod, a man who has been a lifelong Republican — until now.

Bershod switched parties, and we have Donald Trump to thank for that. He sent this letter to Hillary Clinton:

Dear Mrs. Clinton,

As a lifelong Republican, I have found that my party has moved into a direction that I cannot understand or digest with Donald Trump as our leader.

For years, my wife (a life long Democrat) and I differed on many policies. With a 10-year-old daughter, attending an all girls school in NYC, my views have seriously changed watching how the policies of my party have strayed from the years of Ronald Reagan.

This week I made a decision to change my party affiliation. In the past, I have voted across party lines but always as a Republican. This year, I cannot and will not vote for a person who spews hate and fear. The other day I wrote my daughter an email letter to her camp and explained my feelings.

And here is the letter he wrote to Tessa, his little girl:

Tessa,

Guess what, mommy and [I] have an update about the election. Last night during the Democratic National Convention (Hillary Clinton’s event), Hillary was officially nominated.

This is Hillary’s opportunity to become the first female President of the United States of America. This is a big event in our history.

This shows that you can do anything you put your mind too. This shows that strong young girls like you can become strong young women who make a difference in our world.

By the way, I told mommy that I can no longer support the Party I have always known. I cannot accept the message of hate and fear Donald Trump presents. I have officially sent my application to change political parties (mommy was very happy).

This is our future and we need to stand united (this is why we are the UNITED STATES of AMERICA).

Daddy

Any father of little girls should be deeply concerned about the future of women in this country. We applaud Mr. Bershod, and think Tessa has a really wonderful daddy.

Note: Because I expect right wing nutjobs (and maybe even some right wingers who aren’t nutjobs) to suggest that this letter is “fake,” I decided to do some detective work to find the family. I always like to verify stories like this. Hillary’s site spells the last name as “Bershad” as of my first writing of this story, while Mr. Bershod signed his letter as “David Bershod.” I couldn’t find a profile on Facebook that was definitely David Bershod, though a couple of male profiles with that name looked like they may be him. I found a profile belonging to a Bobbi Bershod (he didn’t mention his wife’s name in the letter, so this could be a female relative). The little girl in the photo looks a lot like Tessa. Note the distinctive side part on her hair. Bobbi Bershod lives in New York, and I found a chess team roster with a “Tessa Bershod” at a chess club in New York. Not sharing the links here for obvious reasons. And also, Google has several listings for David and Dave Bershods in New York.

Yeah I feel a bit like a creeper, but I wanted to offer up something substantial.
