Trump’s Own Campaign Debunks His False Claim (VIDEO)

In yet another bizarre move following a week of gaffes, Trump made the false claim on Wednesday, and then again on Thursday, that he saw footage of a $400 million ransom paid to the Iranian government.

False Claim – There Is A Secret Tape

Intelligence officials quickly discredited Trump’s claim of a secret tape. Indeed, officials weren’t even sure to what footage Trump was talking about in his statement. Trump’s description of the footage included the following:

“The tape is of the people taking the money off the plane … Nobody getting nervous because they’re gonna be shot because they’re shooting a picture of money pouring off a plane.”

Fox News aired a clip back in January that showed footage of a small plane in Geneva, not Tehran. The Washington Post asked the Trump campaign if this was the footage to which Trump was referring, and spokesperson Hope Hicks replied with,

“Yes. Merely the b-roll footage included in every broadcast.”

So his OWN CAMPAIGN has acknowledged that the footage was from American hostages landing in Geneva, not Iran, and yet he repeated the claim again.

False Claim – Hillary Was Involved

Trump also asserted that Hillary Clinton was involved in this transfer of $400 million to Iran as a ransom payment. Clinton had nothing to do with the release of detainees. She stepped down from her post as Secretary of State in 2013.

The United States did, indeed, send $400 million to Iran as part of a larger settlement announced on January 17 of this year. Secretary of State John Kerry released a press statement on the State Department website that day, which stated, in part:

“The United States and Iran today have settled a long outstanding claim at the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal in the Hague.

This specific claim was in the amount of a $400 million Trust Fund used by Iran to purchase military equipment from the United States prior to the break in diplomatic ties. In 1981, with the reaching of the Algiers Accords and the creation of the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal, Iran filed a claim for these funds, tying them up in litigation at the Tribunal.

This is the latest of a series of important settlements reached over the past 35 years at the Hague Tribunal. In constructive bilateral discussions, we arrived at a fair settlement to this claim, which due to litigation risk, remains in the best interests of the United States.

Iran will receive the balance of $400 million in the Trust Fund, as well as a roughly $1.3 billion compromise on the interest. Iran’s recovery was fixed at a reasonable rate of interest and therefore Iran is unable to pursue a bigger Tribunal award against us, preventing U.S. taxpayers from being obligated to a larger amount of money.”

Confused, Dangerous, Or Both?

All of this put together means the following:

  • Trump is confused by what he saw, yet has no problem making wild speculations about it
  • He has no problem passing on wild speculations to crowds of people
  • Trump wants the nuclear codes, but Fox News fools him

This is a man who has no business in the White House.
