Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is a dangerous man for so many reasons, but so much attention has been paid to his blatant racism and general assholery that we’re forgetting about how much he denies accepted science.
He Thinks Climate Change Is A Hoax
Like so many on the right, Trump clings to the notion that climate change is a hoax and that everything is just fine. This, despite the fact that about 97 percent of climate scientists – you know, the people who actually STUDY this stuff – agree that it’s real.
Trump, along with many other Republicans, like to say that it’s all about the money. Scientists would like to know when that money will start rolling in, because they’re certainly not seeing it.
He Thinks Vaccinations Cause Autism
We have vaccinations to thank for the near-eradication of many diseases worldwide, yet Trump still believes that there is a link between vaccines and autism.
Celebrities such as Jenny McCarthy are often blamed for using their fame to promote their idiotic anti-vax movement, and they have, but the vast majority of it can be laid squarely at the feet of one Andrew Wakefield. Wakefield is the disgraced and discredited former doctor who published a fraudulent paper in 1998 linking the MMR vaccine to autism. Thanks to the anti-vax movement, we are now seeing measles and whooping cough making a comeback.
He Says NASA Is “Wonderful” But Doesn’t Want To Fund It
In a recent Ask Me Anything (AMA) on Reddit, a user asked Trump what he thought about NASA’s space program, and he said,
“Honestly I think NASA is wonderful! America has always led the world in space exploration.”
And yet, last November Trump also told a 10-year-old boy, though he supposedly loves NASA, that,
“Right now, we have bigger problems — you understand that? We’ve got to fix our potholes. You know, we don’t exactly have a lot of money.”
Uh, Donald? You want to be Head Cheeto in Charge, right? Then you should know that not only is the United States the wealthiest country on the planet, but NASA is a program that has a return of $10 for every $1 invested.
That’s a mighty healthy return on investment. Much better than, say, drug testing welfare recipients (which costs much more than it saves, and is something Agent Orange Donald Trump supports).
He Thinks He Doesn’t Need Sleep
Trump is on record as saying,
“You know, I’m not a big sleeper. I like three hours, four hours, I toss, I turn, I beep-de-beep, I want to find out what’s going on.”
Putting aside the “beep-de-beep” comment, Trump’s boasting about lack of sleep is actually quite unnerving. Experts have said,
“Moderate sleep deprivation produces impairments in cognitive and motor performance equivalent to legally prescribed levels of alcohol intoxication.”
So, in essence, Trump is drunk pretty much all the time.
