I don’t know about you, but I have Republican friends and acquaintances who claim that they watch Fox News because it’s so unbiased. Especially when they compare it to that liberal news outlet, CNN.
Well, here’s an example of just how false that claim is. Slate is reporting that while the grieving father of a U.S. Marine was talking about his fallen son, Fox decided to show something completely different.
Now, to be honest, Fox was under no obligation to air every minute of the Democratic National Convention. They didn’t choose to carry every speech. That’s completely understandable, given their close ties to the Republican Party.
It’s what they chose to air instead that is so appalling.
On Thursday evening, a man named Khizr Khan stood in front of the Democratic Convention to talk about his son. The Pakistani Muslim was flanked by his wife, a silent, elegant figure who stood beside him in a traditional robe. Khan spoke about his son Humayun Khan, a Marine Captain who died while saving other soldiers in Iraq in 2004.

He spoke passionately about his boy, and about the fact that if Donald Trump had his way, none of the Khan family would have been allowed into the U.S.. Captain Khan would not have been allowed to serve this country.
In one of the most powerful moments of either Convention, Mr. Khan asked Donald Trump if he had ever read the Constitution. He pulled out his own copy and offered to share it. His anger and his sorrow were equally evident as he spoke.
While that was happening in Philadelphia, and being shown live by MSNBC and CNN, Fox News was showing a clip of FBI Director James Comey warning that ISIS is on the rise.
Proof positive that Fox News has bought into the Republican idea that fear brings out the voters. Terror is their best ally. Just in case any of its viewers had accidentally clicked on the DNC coverage and seen brave, patriotic, passionate Muslims speaking about equal protection under the law, Fox had to remind them that the scary Muslim terrorists are still coming after them.
Such balanced, even coverage.
