Donald Trump, according to one of his main mouthpieces, doesn’t seek attention or headlines; that’s just not his style.
Katrina Pierson said on CNN yesterday that Trump would likely not meet with Khizir Khan, the father of U.S. Army Capt. Humayun S.M. Khan, who gave his life in service to his country while serving in Iraq. Mr. Khan gave a moving and emotional speech on the last night of the Democratic National Convention this week, accusing Trump of fomenting hatred against Muslim Americans.
Khan also appeared on MSNBC last night and told Lawrence O’Donnell:
“Isn’t this time to repudiate Trump, what he has said? What he has threatened to do? This is a moral imperative for both leaders to say to him ‘That’s enough. You are about to sink the ship of the patriot Republicans. Republicans are as patriotic as Democrats are. They’re half of the goodness of this beautiful country, half of this political process that the rest of the world watches enviously, learns from it.”
But Pierson told Wolf Blitzer it was highly unlikely Trump would be meeting with Mr. Khan or his wife, not because he was afraid to face their wrath or be called out for his repeated cheap shots against Muslims, whom he has said he would ban from entering the United States, but rather because that would only be:
“Just another opportunity to make headlines and Mr. Trump doesn’t like to do that, particularly with matters of the heart.”
Since when does Donald Trump not like to make headlines? Everything he says and does he calculates for the effect it will have and how much media coverage it will garner. To now assert that he would never seek to exploit another person for his own benefit is ludicrous. How much do you want to bet Trump would hold a press conference and shout from the highest mountain if the Khan family wanted to publicly endorse him?
Donald Trump is nothing more than a common bully and narcissist with a boundless ego. He is also a threat to everything we value most in this country.
