Donald Trump HUMILIATES Himself, Cites Nonexistent Law To Argue For Persecuted Christians (VIDEO)

Donald Trump has built his entire campaign on hate, fear, and lies. Politifact found that the majority of his statements are varying degrees of false.

Now, Trump is citing laws that don’t even exist. He is saying that Christians’ rights are being threatened. Here are his full comments:

“Our laws prevent you from speaking your minds from your own pulpits. An amendment, pushed by Lyndon Johnson many years ago, threatens religious institutions with a loss of their tax-exempt status if they openly advocate their political views. I am going to work very hard to repeal that language and protect free speech for all Americans. I think maybe that will be my greatest contribution to Christianity—and other religions—is to allow you, when you talk religious liberty, to go and speak openly…”

He is referring to the law that forbids churches from participating in politics. Trump claimed that this was a rule pushed through by Lyndon Johnson that threatened churches with loss of their tax-exempt status. This law doesn’t exist. Read more here about the actual law 1954 law enacted when SENATOR Lyndon Johnson (way before he was president) proposed an amendment to a bill that established a new tax code.

He admitted that several pastors have endorsed him but that many have declined to do so out of fear because:

“Christianity is under siege. Every year it gets weaker and weaker and weaker.”

And this:

“We don’t have a [Christian] lobby because they are afraid, because they don’t want to lose their tax status. So I am going to work like hell to get rid of that prohibition and we are going to have the strongest Christian lobby and it’s going to happen. And it’s going to happen. This took place during the presidency of Lyndon Johnson and it has had a terrible, chilling effect.”

By the way, there are several Christian lobbyists in Washington, and there is a Christian lobbyists association.

Does Donald Trump not know what the First Amendment is? We are not allowed to mix religion and government. The law that The Donald is referring to says churches are not allowed to:

“…Participate in, or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements), any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office.”

Trump is just echoing the Republican lie that Christians are being persecuted in this country. In the World Watch List that keeps data on which countries persecute religious people, the United States didn’t even make the top 50. North Korea is the one who is persecuting Christians the most.

Christians: you are not being persecuted in the United States. Stopping other people from exercising their rights is not a right you have. Disagreement is not persecution.

Here is a video of the Young Turks talking about Bill O’Reilly’s claim that Christians are persecuted more than Muslims.
