John Oliver Mocks GOP With Hit Single ‘Don’t Use Our Song’ (VIDEO)

John Oliver is the host of the show, Last Week Tonight, and he often comments on politics. Last night, he had a message that we can all agree with. Several recording artists got together and sang a song about politicians using their songs. They are tired of Donald Trump and other politicians using their songs without permission.

Oliver started the bit with a shoutout to the Dropkick Murphys. They tweeted:

Oliver talked about the Dropkick Murphys when he said:

“They may be angry Boston hooligans, but I’ll say this about the Dropkick Murphys: they know when to properly use the word ‘literally.'”

Oliver talks about the candidates using songs without permission from these bands. Oliver recruited some recording artists to join him. They sang a song called “Don’t Use Our Songs.” I hope The Donald gets sued for using one of their songs.

The musicians in the song include Usher, Michael Bolton, Josh Groban, Sheryl Crow, John Mellencamp, Dan Reynolds, Ann Wilson, and Nancy Wilson.

There is also the hilarious fact that Donald Trump played the song, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by the Rolling Stones after his acceptance speech. I wonder if The Donald can understand irony or not.

Josh Groban had the best line when he sang:

“If I wanted to sing and not get paid, I’d be on Spotify.”

Michael Bolton had a great line in the chorus:

“By the time this tune is through, you’ll be lucky if we don’t sue.”

Here is the full segment with the music video at the end.

Oliver had a lot more to say about the Republican National Convention (RNC), and he said this about the speech by Antonio Sabato, Jr., an actor, at the (RNC):

“What is truly revealing is that his implication that believing something to be true is the same as it being true. Because if anything, that was the theme of the Republican convention this week. It was a four-day exercise in emphasizing feelings over facts.”
