WATCH: Courageous Amy Schumer Speaks Out About Her Shocking First Sexual Encounter

It has come to light that Amy Schumer’s first time, her first sexual experience, was not with her consent.

“My first sexual experience was not a good one.”

Schumer told Marie Claire magazine:

“I didn’t think about it until I started reading my journal again. When it happened, I wrote about it almost like a throwaway. It was like, And then I looked down and realized he was inside of me. He was saying, ‘I’m so sorry’ and ‘I can’t believe I did this.”

This was not the only time her ‘no’ has been ignored in the bedroom, according to Schumer. Amy said that when she said “Stop!” to an ex-boyfriend, he carried on.

While this is the first formal admission of this happening to her, she has alluded to non-consensual sex at college before in her routine. Her comment was how afterwards, she thought to herself,

Not totes consensh.”

Schumer has made a career telling jokes about her sex life in stand up comedy. The very open comic often makes the point that if a man told her jokes, no one would even comment.

Amy highlights the double standard that exists between men and women, especially when it comes to sex.

In another routine, she draws attention to all of the offensive sex things men do to women, such as the Dirty Sanchez or the Houdini. These are often degrading to women and at times equate to rape.

Schumer turned it on its head and asked what could a woman do to a man in bed that would be the same? The Wacky Shirley where you sit on his face and tweet?

How should a victim react?

Amy has no wish to pursue the men who did this to her, and she also mentions many other ‘factors’ being at play. It is important that Schumer can talk about it. The issue of consent is confronted when people speak up.

rape culture obviously exists in college, and society in general. Schumer should not be judged in any way for how she chooses to react to what happened to her.

She puts it so beautifully with

“It makes people so mad if you’re not a perfect victim.”
