Trump Looking At Retired General To Serve As His Running Mate

Having already been rebuffed by two potential running mates–Senators Bob Corker and Joni Ernst–Donald Trump is reportedly now looking at a retired general to serve in that role.

The name which keeps surfacing inside the Trump camp is retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn. A source inside the Trump campaign told the Washington Post:

“Trump-Flynn. I’ve heard him say that, kind of test out the sound of it. I think it’s a brand he finds appealing.”

How does General Flynn feel about the prospect of being offered the role of Vice President? He told the media:

“All I would say is that I have been honored to serve my country for the past three decades and look forward to serving in other ways now that I am retired from the U.S. Army. I’ve been a soldier too long to refuse to entertain any request from a potential commander-in-chief.”

Flynn, a registered Democrat, has been a vocal critic of President Obama and many others in the current Washington political establishment. He is currently serving as Trump’s foreign policy adviser.

Also thought to still be in the running for the number two slot on the GOP ticket are New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, and Indiana Governor Mike Pence. The question remains for any potential running mate if they want to tarnish their legacy by attaching themselves to a candidate as toxic as Trump who is likely to lose by a large margin in the general election.
