Earlier this morning on CNN, yet another Trump shill, Jeffrey Lord, attempted to minimize the tweet Trump sent out last week showing a photo of Hillary Clinton superimposed over a pile of money and complete with a red Star of David accusing the presumptive Democratic nominee of being corrupt.
Lord, much like former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, said the star was just a modified sheriff’s badge:
“The sheriff’s image is out there everywhere. This has been around in America (for) well over a century. When I saw this tweet that is exactly what I first thought of, was that it was the sheriff’s badge over money, which meant she was corrupt — crooked Hillary, which is one of the themes of the campaign.”
Then Lord used the old tactic of diversion and deflection, attempting (unsuccessfully) to blame racism and anti-Semitism on the Democrats, commenting:
“Frankly, I think some of this is a matter of culture. They took it down — I don’t think they should have taken it down, frankly. I mean, it just — I mean, if we’re going to talk about anti-Semitism then we need to talk about why we had people on the Democratic platform committee right now pushing anti-Israel point of views who were put there by Bernie Sanders. Why is there division over anti-Semitism in the Democratic Party? That’s serious stuff.”
Fortunately, CNN contributor Hillary Rosen was there to remind Lord that Trump has long been associated with racist groups such as the KKK and various neo-Nazi right-wingers during the course of the 2016 campaign. That remark led Lord to double down on his lying, saying:
“If we’re going to get down to divisive politics and all this, I genuinely — I’ve asked this question before and I’ll ask it of Hilary again, or for the first time. Is the Democratic Party, which has written six platforms supporting slavery, are you finally ready to apologize? If you want to stop dividing the country, wouldn’t that be a good place to start?”
Rosen, in disbelief, reminded Lord that several Democratic presidents, including Bill Clinton have “consistently apologized for slavery.”
Lord, realizing he was losing the debate, then blurted out:
“Yeah, but you never apologized for inflicting slavery on the country.”
I’m wondering if these names mean anything to Jeffrey Lord: John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama. Democrats are the party of division and racism? If Jeffrey Lord wants to see who is responsible for the hatred we see in the eyes of Trump supporters, he need only take a look in the mirror, or at the candidate he supports.
