Oh, boy howdy. Those Trump folks are sure good at backpeddling, aren’t they?
There’s that whole Muslim ban problem, where Donald moved from “Ban all the Muslims” to “Ban a few of the Muslims.”
Now Trump’s people are trying sound less racist about the candidate’s favorite label for the progressive senator from Massachusetts.
We all know that Trump loves to refer to Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Ma) as “Pocahontas.”

Apparently as at one point in her life, Senator Warren checked the box next to “Native American” on a college application. This was at a time when she was on the faculty of both Harvard University and The University of Pennsylvania Law Schools. She checked the boxes because she believed that she had Native American ancestry. Both of the schools have been very clear in saying that her heritage played no part in her hiring.
That didn’t stop the Trumpster from attacking her for it, though. He has repeatedly tried to claim that the Senator cheated her way into her faculty positions.
Senator Warren has shrugged off the racist attacks, but some Native Americans have had a harder time.

Trump has not come out to apologize. He hasn’t backed down. He keeps on using the overtly racist label for the senator.
Now the soon-to-be Republican nominee is under pressure to appear more presidential.
His surrogates, those poor things, have been tasked with walking back his most hateful and racist comments.
The Huffington Post is reporting that current Trump spokeswoman and former “The Apprentice” candidate Erin Elmore is twisting herself into a pretzel trying to undo the damage caused by the “Pocahontas” slur.
Apparently Ms. Elmore watches a lot of Disney movies. She told MSNBC that she herself has some Native American background. She added that Trump’s continuous labeling of Senator Warren as Pocahontas might not be so terrible. She said:
“Perhaps its a compliment. I think she’s one of the most well-known Native Americans.”
Um. Yeah?
Pocahontas is known by the pop culture crowd as the pretty young woman who saved John Smith, then fell in love with him and lived happily ever after.
She’s not necessarily remembered as the young woman who was kidnapped and taken to England where she was forced to change her name and her religion before giving birth to a baby and dying young.
So let’s be clear: When Trump calls Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas,” it isn’t because he thinks she is brave and strong. It’s because he’s trying to call her a racist name.
We aren’t quite that stupid, Mr. Trump. We know what you mean when you open that huge mouth of yours.
