New Poll Shows Majority Of GOP Voters Want Someone Other Than Trump

Donald Trump constantly says people love him: Women, blacks, Hispanics, everyone! But from the looks of a just-released poll, that too is just another of the infinite number of lies that the Donald is so fond of telling.

The latest results from an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll show that only 45 percent of Republican voters surveyed are happy to have Trump leading the ticket in 2016. 52 percent said they want someone other than Trump to represent the GOP.

Looking deeper into the NBC poll, which was released Monday, you can see a prominent split among Republicans based on ideological and educational backgrounds.

Among conservative Republicans, 53 percent said they would prefer a candidate other than Trump, while 45 percent of that group said they are fine with Trump nominee. Moderate Republicans split at 49 percent each, while 58 percent of Republicans who have a high-school education or less said they are satisfied. Sixty percent with a college degree said they would like someone else to be the standard-bearer for the GOP.

The poll also shows that Trump lags behind presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton on several issues:

  • Having the ability to handle a crisis (48 percent to 34 percent)
  • Having the ability to unite the country (40 percent to 26 percent)
  • Handling foreign policy (54 percent to 30 percent)
  • Being a good commander-in-chief (44 percent to 32 percent)

Trump did best Clinton in some categories which were surveyed in the NBC/Wall Street Journal poll:

  • Changing business as usual in Washington (53 percent to 23 percent)
  • Economic issues (47 percent to 37 percent)
  • Being effective at getting things done (42 percent to 39 percent)
  • Being honest and straightforward (41 percent to 25 percent)

In national polls, Clinton holds an overall average lead of 8 points over Trump, and in one poll she has a 14 point cushion over the likely GOP nominee.
