Mitch McConnell Refuses To Say If He Thinks Trump Is Qualified To Be President (Video)

With friends like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Donald Trump sure as hell doesn’t need any enemies.

During an appearance on the ABC show “This Week,” the Kentucky Senator was asked directly if he thinks Trump is even qualified to be President of the United States. McConnell said he would “leave that to the American people to decide.”

McConnell then tried to dig his way out of the hole he had just dug for himself, adding:

“It’s a long time until November. And the burden, obviously, will be on him to convince people that he can handle this job.”

Wow! That’s about as lukewarm as you can get when asked about the presumptive nominee of your party.

Senator Turtle also made it clear that Trump will not be writing the GOP platform, telling host George Stephanopoulos:

“If you look at the platform that will be written at our convention, we are not changing the basic principles that Republicans believe in. Our nominee may not agree with every single one of those but the Party will remain America’s conservative party.”

What about a total ban on Muslims? Will that be in platform? McConnell:

“It’s my expectation that the platform will be a traditional Republican platform, not all that different from the one we had four years ago.”

Seeking clarification, Stephanopoulos asked:

“So it won’t be Mr. Trump’s platform?”

To that, McConnell replied:

“It’ll be the platform of the Republican Party and I don’t expect it to differ that much from the platform we had four years ago.”

Translation: There is no way in hell the GOP will put a Muslim ban, or a wall on the border, in their platform. And if Donald Trump doesn’t like that, they really don’t care.
