Two Marines Post Anti-Gay Threat On Facebook, Now Under Investigation

Two active-duty members of the United States Marine Corps are under formal investigation for a posting they made on Facebook which seems to suggest a violent threat against homosexuals and gay bars.

The investigation began when a photo was posted on a closed Facebook group for male marines showing a marine corporal in uniform pointing a rifle at the camera with the caption:

“Coming to a gay bar near you!”

The marines who posted the photo are members of the California-based I Marine Expeditionary Force and carry the rank of corporal.

First Lt. Thomas Gray, a spokesman for unit, told Marine Corps Times the investigation is being taken “very seriously,”  but would not comment further on the matter.

It is unclear if the intent of the posting was an actual threat or just an incredibly bad joke in the wake of the shooting deaths of 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.

One wonders, however, how any sentient human being with a shred of decency could even consider making such a posting while the entire nation mourns the loss of life which took place in Florida. We can hope the Marine Corps will get to the bottom of the matter and that those responsible will be punished appropriately.
