Guy Catches His Grandmother Using Really Good Manners While Googling

Having good manners pays off – as Ben and his Nan discovered when her search on Google went viral, and @GoogleUK responded with a very personal greeting – but let’s start from the beginning.

Last week, 25-year-old teaching assistant Ben Eckersley from Wigan, England, tweeted out a photo of his grandma’s computer screen.

Ben discovered that she’d been trying to google some roman numerals, and he couldn’t help but notice that her search terms were delightfully polite.

One week later, and the tweet has received a whopping 35,000 likes and 24,000 retweets.

Perhaps the fact that the @GoogleUK Twitter account for the number one search engine itself responded today by giving this lovely praise to Ben’s tweet, as well as a personal response to Nan’s request, has something to do with the continued viral spread of the tweet;

Dearest Ben’s Nan.
Hope you’re well.
In a world of billions of Searches, yours made us smile.
Oh, and it’s 1998.
Thank YOU@Push10Ben

But Ben’s Nan always uses good manners when searching online. Ben told Buzzfeed,

“She just thinks that’s how it’s done!”

Many responders have requested to see a picture of Ben together with his Nan, and Ben finally managed to take one together with his camera-shy kin.

They both look adorable and very, very happy.

“We’re both shocked! It’s huge here in the UK[sic] … It’s crazy! She’s so happy though!”

Ben and Nan’s journey to media fame can be followed though his Twitter account, @push10ben, where he updates their interviews and articles on media outlets ranging from BBC and CBCNews to Cosmopolitan.

We wish Ben and Nan the best of luck on their journey, and we are happy to conclude it pays to be polite.
