On Tuesday, President Obama addressed the United States of Women Summit and made a comment which I have to admit made me, as the father of a girl, very happy and incredibly proud. The President said:
“I did want to stop by and make one thing very clear: I may be grayer than I was eight years ago, but this is what a feminist looks like.”

But you would have thought the President had just declared war on bigoted, right-wing asshats. (Which might not be such a bad idea, but one issue at a time.) Here’s some of the vile comments posted on Twitter after the President spoke:
So let me go ahead and say this so the haters can take their cheap shots at me and I can laugh at them: I’m also a feminist, and if that makes you think less of me, so be it. I’d rather be on the right side of equality for all Americans than be stuck in the past when women, blacks, Hispanics, Asian-Americans, Muslims, Jews, and the LGBT community had little or no rights at all. I stand with the President, and I do so proudly.
