Republican Gets Butthurt Over NPR Interview About Trump And His Racist Comments

A California Republican lawmaker, Sen. Joel Anderson, accused NPR of “ambushing” him in an interview this morning, June 7. Anderson was asked if Trump’s racist rhetoric is hurting his party. He had this to say on the subject:

“We’re being lied to by the press. There’s so much more going on than this nonsense about a judge. He deserves a fair trial like every American deserves a fair trial.”

The interviewer then countered with the fact that Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) had spoken out against Trump’s attack on the judge. When she asked further about the racism, Anderson said:

“Every American deserves a fair trial. You know, I’m really not interested in an ambush interview.”

Yes, how dare we ambush him with facts? He also claimed that he was being “picked on” as well.

He continued:

“We’ve seen story after story from the beginning of ambush interviews looking for the poison dart to kill Donald Trump. You haven’t found any in the press and now you’re picking on a senator to try to find something.”

In another case, CNN reporter and Trump-supporter, Jeffrey Lord, turned the racism toward the Hispanic judge in the Trump University case. Judge Gonzalo Curiel is a member of the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association whose mission statement says:

“Our purpose is to advance the cause of equality, empowerment and justice for Latino attorneys and the Latino community in San Diego County through service and advocacy.”

Lord compared this to the hypothetical situation of the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia being involved in a “white lawyers” group.

Trump’s staffers have sent out emails telling news outlets to stop talking about the Trump University lawsuit altogether as some in his own party are turning against him. Paul Ryan said Trump’s comments about the judge were “the definition of racism.”

Donald Trump has recently gotten a lot of flack for insulting a Hispanic judge who is trying his case of fraud over Trump University. He wants judge Gonzalo Curiel taken off of the case because there is a “conflict of interest.”
