BREAKING: One Major Media Outlet To Cancel All Trump Ads

As we head into the general election season, both the Democratic and Republican candidates are setting up their ad campaigns. Billions of dollars will be spent on ads, for both Presidential and Congressional races.

Given the huge amounts of money involved, media outlets are usually eager to run the ads.

This year, however, at least one website is saying, “Not so fast.”

CNN reports that the news website Buzzfeed is refusing to run any advertising for the Republican Party because Donald Trump is just too awful.

The Republican National Committee and Buzzfeed signed a contract in April worth $1.3 million. The site had agreed to run ads for GOP candidates, including whoever ended up as the Presidential nominee.

As the campaign has gone on, Buzzfeed’s staff has become increasingly uncomfortable with the presumptive Republican nominee. In a memo to staffers that was released yesterday, the site’s CEO said:

“Earlier today Buzzfeed informed the RNC that we would not accept Trump for President ads and that we would be terminating our agreement with them. The Trump campaign is directly opposed to the freedoms of our employees in the United States and around the world and in some cases, such as his proposed ban on international travel for Muslims, would make it impossible for our employees to do their jobs.”

The move is not entirely surprising, in spite of the huge amount of money involved. Last December, Buzzfeed became the first major media outlet to use the word “racist” in reference to Trump.

The site’s editor-in-chief wrote a memo to staff saying that it was acceptable to call Trump a “mendacious racist.

The Trump campaign hadn’t yet responded at the time of this writing. The RNC, however, stated that they never intended to use Buzzfeed for advertising anyway. Which certainly begs the question of why they signed a contract in the first place.
