WATCH: Humanity Is Officially Doomed. A Dude Figured Out How To Deep-Fry Water

Yes, you read that correctly. Someone has figured out how to fry water. I’m from The South where we fry everything, but this seems ridiculous.

I thought that we had officially gotten to the worst fried foods when I heard of fried butter. Someone in Iowa made a fried stick of butter with a cinnamon batter.

This is not the first time someone has fried a liquid. The 2010 Most Creative Award at the State Fair of Texas went to fried beer. They are deep fried ravioli made with a pretzel dough and dipped in beer. In case you want to do this yourself, here is a step-by-step guide to making it.

Jonathan Marcus from Massachusetts has figured out how to fry water.

In order to do this, he had to figure out how to create a membrane around the water, so that it could be picked up and breaded. According to Vice Munchies, he used

“Calcium alginate, a gelatinous substance that is made from aqueous calcium chloride and aqueous sodium alginate (a tried-and-true staple of molecular gastronomy).”

Once he got the water encased in this substance, Marcus gently picked up the ball, rolled it in flour, dipped it in a beaten egg, and placed it into his fryer.

Marcus put it onto a plate and cut it in half. Water poured out of it. He ate the crust and drank the water and declared:

“That was the blandest fried thing I’ve ever tasted.”

Marcus submitted this abomination in the second annual “Stupid Shit No One Needs & Terrible Ideas Hackathon, ” but Vice Munchies thinks it doesn’t belong, and said it’s,

“A brilliant idea. That is, until humanity insists on deep-frying all liquids—including the water and blood in our very bodies—and we sweatily slide into a food coma that encompasses the entire world.”

There are some things that just should never be done. We already eat enough fried solid food, we don’t need fried liquids.
