There’s a very good chance you didn’t hear that President Obama made an appointment to the President’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. The person he appointed is name Barbara Satin, and Satin is a veteran of the Air Force who also happens to be a Christian. You might think the right-wing would embrace such an appointment, seeing as how they dearly love to proclaim their love for the armed forces and God. But you could not possibly be more incorrect.
Make no mistake, Satin has impeccable credentials: She has served as a member of the United Church of Christ’s executive council and did her duty to defend her country, which is more than can be said for most of the hawkish Republicans who rattle their sabers anytime so much as sneezes in their presence. So what’s the problem with Barbara Satin? Well, she also happens to be transgender.
When the President appointed Satin, the White House announcement noted:
“Barbara Satin is the Assistant Faith Work Director for the National LGBTQ Task Force. She is an active member of the United Church of Christ and served on the denomination’s Executive Council as its first openly transgender member. Ms. Satin recently worked on the development of Spirit on Lake, a LGBTQ senior housing project in Minneapolis. She served on the Board of Directors for OutFront Minnesota from 2001 to 2008 and has served as Chair of GLBT Generations since 1999. She has also served on the Board of Directors of PFund Foundation, a regional LGBTQ community foundation advancing social justice in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin, since 2013.”
Yes, the right-wing nut jobs scream, but she’s transgender, and that’s our latest group to hate and pour scorn upon! Mr. President, how dare you!
Looking at some of what has been posted on social media, you’d think the President just had appointed Lucifer. Take a look at some of this ignorant intolerance writ large:
If the losers who posted this filth want to see something that will really make them sick and bring on disgust, I suggest they all go take a look in the mirror.
