Hawaii Wants To Put Gun Owners In A Federal Database

Hawaii is going to be the first state to enter its gun owners into an FBI database. Until now, the people entered in that database in other parts of the country are people in “trusted positions” including teachers and bus drivers.

Not everyone is into the idea. State gun instructor, James Ilo, had this to say about the measure:

“I don’t like the idea of us being entered into a database. It basically tells us that they know where the guns are, they can go grab them. We get the feeling that Big Brother is watching us.

Supporters are saying this could make Hawaii the country’s leader in gun safety.

Boston University did a study a couple of months ago. They determined we need these three types of gun laws:

  • Background checks for all firearm purchases. This includes closing the gun show loophole.
  • Background checks for large ammunition purchases. No one needs 5,000 rounds in their house.
  • Firearm identification. Investigators can determine which gun fired a bullet.

In January, President Obama released some executive actions to further gun safety. Conservative gun-nuts got mad when the president brought in shooting victims when he was announcing these actions. RWNJ talk show host Dana Loesch had this to say about Obama’s announcement:

β€œThe problem is he is dishonest. He stood in front of the wrong people. He pledges to help those affected by illegally possessed and used firearms, but actions speak louder than words. If the president wanted to stand in front of a group of people so as to claim that he is helping them, he should surround himself with β€” and stand in front of β€” the groups he is really helping: gang members, felons, and repeat offenders.”

These measures Obama proposed were very basic common sense gun control measures.
