WATCH: Saturday Night Live Slams NRA Endorsement Of Donald Trump, ‘Obviously They Didn’t Do A Background Check On Him’

Saturday Night Live’s season finale was most definitely an episode for the books. Fred Armisen hosted the last show of the 41st season, with a performance by musical guest, Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett.

During the “Weekend Update” segment, spoof anchor Colin Jost announced the National Rifle Association’s recent endorsement of presumptive Republican nominee, Donald J. Trump.

Jost was quick to fire shots at the NRA, saying:

“I assume they didn’t do a background check. If they had, they would have seen that when President Obama called for gun control in the wake of the Newtown shooting, Trump tweeted: ‘President Obama spoke for me and every American in his remarks in #Newtown Connecticut.’”

Jost continued:

“He wrote hashtag Newtown but forgot to write #MightHaveToCompletelyChangeMyViewsIfIEndUpBeingARepublican.”

Jost concluded that the NRA’s endorsement of Trump does in fact make some sense, stating:

“Ultimately though, it does make sense that the NRA would endorse Trump, because Trump himself is kind of like a gun. We think he’s going to make us feel safe and strong, but he might end up accidentally killing us.”

Then Michael Che came on screen to take on the Republican accusation that Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton somehow wants to destroy the 2nd Amendment.

Che pointed out:

“During a speech to the NRA, Trump claimed that Hillary Clinton would abolish the Second Amendment, which is just not true. Look, NRA, nobody is trying to take your guns away from you. We understand how much you need them for the apocalypse, and your daughter’s wedding, and to fry bacon on.”

He went on further:

“But I assure you, nobody is trying to take your precious guns away from you, except maybe a curious toddler, which ironically is exactly why maybe Hillary Clinton is trying to prevent this.”
