Oklahoma Legislature Introduces Bill To Impeach Obama Over Transgender Rights

The Republican–controlled legislature of Oklahoma, apparently unaware of how the United States Constitution works, has introduced legislation to impeach President Obama for his defense of transgender Americans who wish to use the bathroom where they feel most comfortable.

In particular, Oklahoma Republicans are upset that the President has announced schools must accommodate trans students and allow them to use whatever restroom they wish to. Towards blocking that move from the White House, the legislature will also take up a measure which would allow students to claim a religious right as a way of  having separate but equal bathrooms and changing facilities to segregate them from transgender students.

Separate but equal. Sounds oddly familiar, especially in a state such as Oklahoma, doesn’t it? This very same Oklahoma once enshrined into law the discriminatory practice of not allowing white and black students to attend the same school or be seen together in public.

The impeachment resolution also calls on Oklahoma’s Congressional members to file articles of impeachment against Obama, the U.S. attorney general, the U.S. secretary of education, and any other officials who seek to implement the President’s policy of tolerance.

Just last week, the Obama administration told public schools that transgender students must be allowed to use the bathroom of their choice. This has enraged narrow-minded Republicans such as Oklahoma State Representative John Bennett, who declared the White House’s position as “biblically wrong.”

Troy Stevenson, executive director of Freedom Oklahoma, an LGBT advocacy group, said the state legislature should be focused on issues which matter to all residents of the state:

“In a time when our state is facing an unprecedented economic crisis, our lawmakers should be focused on righting the ship rather than stigmatizing transgender youth.”

Also, perhaps the Oklahoma legislature needs a lesson in the basics of American government. For example, the United States is run by a Constitution, which is the law of the land, and not by the Bible. If these cretins want to live in a theocracy, there are planes leaving for Iran, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Yemen several times a day.
