A Trump delegate from Maryland has been indicted on charges of illegal transport of explosives, possession of a machine gun, and child pornography.
Thirty-year-old Caleb Andrew Bailey caught the ATF’s attention when a postal worker discovered a package containing .50 caliber bullets and M48A1 projectiles.
On May 5, law enforcement executed a search warrant of:
“…adjoining properties associated with Bailey, including his residence, and seized a machine gun.”
Court documents also allege that Bailey produced pornography with a minor. The officials found child pornography videos in his possession. Bailey is facing 50 years in prison if he is found guilty of all of these charges.
The indictment said that Bailey:
“…knowingly attempted to and did employ, use, persuade, induce, entice, and coerce a minor to engage in any sexually explicit conduct … for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of such conduct, and the visual depiction had been produced using materials that had been mailed, shipped, and transported in interstate and foreign commerce.”
His father, Collins Bailey was a former vice chair of the Maryland Republican Party.
The package that got Bailey arrested had hundreds of rounds of ammo. None of the parties involved had federal licenses to transport ammunition. It was on its way to Wisconsin. Bailey’s first court appearance will be May 24.
A spokeswoman for the Trump campaign said:
“We strongly condemn these allegations and leave it in the capable hands of law enforcement.”
In Maryland, any registered Republican can be a delegate. They are elected by Congressional districts.
If convicted, Bailey faces a minimum fifteen-year sentence. He made the dumb mistake of calling the Post Office to inquire about the package. He used a fake name on the first call, but he gave his real name on other ones. They executed a federal search warrant after Bailey failed to show up to scheduled meetings with police officers.
