Many on the religious right preach that American morality is declining. We allow gay people to get married, we allow this, we allow that. They even say God will punish us for it.
What kind of “Christian values” are these people talking about?
Talking about America’s “moral decay” seems to be one of the main go-to topics for evangelists. The churches talk about everything being so terrible so they can name drop things like “the last days” and “the second coming.”
They say that many disasters and other things are caused by us doing something to anger God.
Televangelist Rick Joyner talked recently about Hurricane Katrina being God’s way of punishing us because New Orleans was full of gay people.
Pat Robertson said that the recent stock market crash was God’s punishment because we allow abortion, and that some fund Planned Parenthood. They can’t even make the reason for the “punishment” actually fit the disaster. They just throw out buzzwords and fear tactics.
Here is more of what Pat Robertson said:
“We will pay dearly as a nation for this thing going on. And possibly if we were to stop, stop all this slaughter, the judgment of God might be lifted from us. But it’s coming, ladies and gentlemen. We just had a little taste of it in terms of the financial system, but it’s going to get shaken to its core in the next few months, years, or however long it takes and it will hurt everyone of us.”
This seems to be a common go-to subject with the religious right.
Blogger John Pavlovitz had this to say on the subject:
“People have always been bigoted, petty, and ignorant, they just all didn’t have free, 24-hour self-promotion machines where they could advertise as much on a regular basis.”
“There have always been corrupt governments, contemptible politicians, and hypocritical religious leaders, only now we have more people armed with the resources to unearth and expose them.”
It’s not just televangelists spouting about moral decay. Plenty of people on social media are spouting this stuff:
Of course, they have to spout the “Obama is Muslim” crap.
Because of Obama & his pro-Islam support, Moral decay is being supported by the State which is outlawing Judeo-Christian religions.
