Thanks But No Thanks: London’s New Mayor Rejects Trump Invite (VIDEO)

London’s new mayor is less than impressed with GOP presumptive nominee Donald Trump. Sadiq Khan, the first Muslim mayor of London, was elected last week. When Trump heard the news, he suggested that his much-maligned plan to ban Muslims from the United States may necessitate a special exception in Khan’s case.

Khan was most certainly not impressed.

“Donald Trump’s ignorant view of Islam could make both our countries less safe — it risks alienating mainstream Muslims around the world and plays into the hands of the extremists.”

It is safe to say then, that Khan rejects that invitation.

The United Kingdom in general has not been pleased with Donald Trump or any of his views. Last December, Trump tweeted that the UK had a “massive Muslim problem,” a view that was not well received. A public petition to ban him from the country altogether drew over half a million signatures and prompted their Parliament to hold an open debate on the matter.

Khan also stated that he was confident that Trump would not win the general election. After a bitterly contested election where he faced many of the same rhetorical attacks being used by Trump now, Khan emerged victorious and hopeful for leading a diverse city like London. He hopes the same can be said of America.

“Conservative tacticians thought those sorts of tactics would win London and they were wrong. I’m confident that Donald Trump’s approach to politics won’t win in America.”

Let’s hope so, Mr. Khan.

When the leaders of our biggest ally won’t work with you, it seems that you won’t be that effective as the leader of our country, does it, Mr. Trump? Khan, for his part, sees the bigger picture:

“This isn’t just about me — it’s about my friends, my family and everyone who comes from a background similar to mine, anywhere in the world.”

Hopefully the American public see it the same way come November.
