Many states have been passing bills dealing with public bathrooms. They seemed to be obsessed with people’s genitals and where they go pee. They have barred transgender people from using the bathroom of the gender they identify with. Transgender people are forced to go to the bathroom of the sex they were born with.
The faulty logic conservatives are using is that transgender people are just men wearing dresses. They think that transgender men are going to go to the ladies’ room and hurt women and children. That just is not happening.
The Christian hate group, the American Family Association, has admitted to sending men dressed as women into the women’s bathroom at Target in Mississippi. They are doing this at Target stores because the company recently released a policy allowing transgendered people to use the bathroom of the gender they identify as.
Conservative groups are telling people to boycott the store. That is fine. It is their right to not shop there. However, sending spies into the bathroom is immature and distasteful. Transgender people have not done anything to illicit this kind of hate.
One of the leaders of the American Family Association, Sandy Rios, has openly admitted to sending “spies” into Target bathrooms:
“I think there’s no question that when you say that there are no barriers in the bathroom and that if men or women feel like they are men or women, the opposition of however they are equipped, and you have no restrictions, the net effect will be that people will not be stopped. We’ve already had people testing this, going into Targets and men trying to go into bathrooms. There is absolutely no barrier.
And so the chief concern, even more than just, I think, trauma, certainly for little girls of having men dressed like women coming in their bathrooms, the chief concern of the American Family Association is the predators who will take advantage.”
Alabama has added a jail sentence onto its bathroom bill. This hatred toward transgender people is frightening.
