During Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, President Obama offered a glimpse into his post-presidency life in a short film titled: Couch Commander.
Throughout the video, Obama tries to figure out what to do with his life after he leaves the Oval Office since he plans to stay in Washington D.C. for two years after he leaves office.
At the beginning of the video, Obama’s in his office watching MSNBC’s Chuck Todd, who jokes, “He’s about to go from Commander-In-Chief to Couch Commander.”
Obama replies to the TV:
‘F*ck you, Chuck Todd.’
In the film, Vice President Joe Biden offers little help to the president as he deliberates over which pair of sunglasses he should wear while Obama lays on the vice president’s couch pondering his future.
However, Biden did offer Obama two good suggestions. He told the president that he should renew his driver’s license and look into volunteering to work with a local sports team.
So Obama calls up the Washington Wizards, an NBA Basketball team, to see about offering his services after he leaves office:
Obama: I understand you’re looking for some coaching help. Let’s just say I coached my daughter’s team a few times…Hello? Hello?” (They hung up)
They then show Obama waiting at the DMV. The DMV official calls Obama’s number, which happens to be number 44. The president and the DMV official engage in some funny dialog:
DMV Official: 44.
Obama: Finally.
So I’m going to be in D.C. a while, and I thought I’d take up driving again.
DMV Official: What is the name?
Obama: Barrack Hussein Obama
DMV Official: (Makes a face) Yikes…(then briefly walks to the back before returning.)
Well since you don’t have a driver’s license you’re going to need a birth certificate.
Obama: Really?
DMV Official: Really.
Obama: (Pulls out his birth certificate, which you get the feeling he always has with him, and hands it to the DMV Official) It’s real.
DMV Official: Is it?
Obama: It’s real.
DMV Official: But is it?
After his misadventure at the DMV, Obama’s back in the White House where he happens upon Michelle Obama’s phone. He decides to send a message on her Snap Chat,
Unfortunately, he was unaware that she had a video filter activated. The next scene shows a breaking news story from CNN. Wolf Blitzer states:
Michelle Obama in hot water after posting this video earlier today.
In the video, Obama’s face distorts into a demon as he exclaims:
Obamacare is great! And it’s really working! Sign up now!
The scene cuts back to Obama at his desk playing around on Michelle’s phone as she walks in and snatches it from his hands.
Obama: No?
Michelle: No.
Obama: Did it get a lot of views at least?
Michelle: Honey, enough! Enough. Why don’t you just talk to somebody who’s been through this?
I gotta go to Soul Cycle. (Michelle walks out)
Obama: She’s right. I know who I need to talk to.
(Obama picks up the phone and makes a call) Hey. It’s Barrack. Listen, can we get together?
Obama then meets up with former Republican Majority Leader John Boehner who then shows the president the ins and outs of post-political life in a hilarious “Training Day” like sequence.
