The Arkansas Police Force Takes A Step Toward Being More Inclusive

There has been a trend of putting “In God We Trust” on everything. We added the phrase to our paper money in the 1950’s. The phrase got added to our coins during the Civil War because of the increased religious sentiment in the country.

We have the phrase, “under God,” in our Pledge of Allegiance. Many southern school districts force students that don’t believe in God to recite the Pledge.

Just recently, a famous ACLU lawyer, Michael Newdow, filed a new lawsuit to get “In God We Trust” off of the money. They are turning the religious right’s “discrimination” laws and turned those against the funds. The “discrimination” bills allow people to turn away employees or customers because of their religious beliefs. So, they are using this to argue that atheists should not be forced to use money that has God’s name on it.

California recently ruled that a Christian cross needs to be taken off of its state seal.

Police departments in Illinois, Kentucky, and North Carolina have been putting “In God We Trust” stickers on their cars.

Now, the police force in Austin, Arkansas is changing the slogan on their police cars. But, luckily, they are heading in the right direction. They put “We The People” decals on all of their police cars. The police department said:

“The Austin Police Department has added a new decal to their patrol vehicles. The decal states ‘We The People’ which is the opening statement to the preamble of the United States Constitution. Chief James Kulesa related; this is to reflect that as law enforcement officers, we are committed and sworn to uphold the laws of this nation and the ideals of the Constitution, without bias, prejudice, or personal opinion. It further reflects law enforcement officers are also “We The People.”

The stickers were also donated, so the police department did not have to pay for them. The chief says that no one has complained about it so far. This is a great step in the right direction.
