WATCH: Cashier Goes On Homophobic Rant, Refuses To Serve LGBT Customers

Last week, Melissa Langford decided to go to a Family Dollar store in New Orleans to pick up a few items she needed. No big deal, right? But shortly after she entered the store, one of the Family Dollar cashiers began to loudly rant about gays. As Langford recalled, writing on Facebook:

“It started off with the cashier loudly voicing her opinion on how much she hates gay people (as I casually stand in line realizing what she’s saying). After five or six minutes (or at least it felt like that long) of listening to her yell and preach to each customer about how ‘gay people need to get the fuck’, they got somethin wrong in they head, *edit* that she had the right to refuse service to anyone she wants, gays are sick” etc, I started to writhe away internally. I wanted to cry right then and there. In fact, I’m crying right now… cuz yall didn’t hear the hateful passion in her voice. She was so loud, so cruel, so uneducated… selfish and just outright mean.”

Langford finally had enough of the hateful yelling by the cashier and told her:

“Excuse me. But I’m very, very gay, and you’re really offending me. Think what you want, but keep it to yourself.”

That only made the cashier more agitated. Langford said the cashier “flipped out” and refused service to the man in front of her. The cashier also would not ring up Langford’s items because she dared to defend LGBT Americans.

Langford tried to reach out to Family Dollar headquarters, but has not heard back. An email to Family Dollar’s corporate headquarters in Charlotte, N.C., from the Advocate has not yet been answered.

Seems only right that this cashier should lose her job and Langford should receive an apology from Family Dollar. But as of yet, neither has taken place.
