Ted Cruz’s father, Rafael B. Cruz, has been identified in a picture standing next to John F. Kennedy’s assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald, according to the National Enquirer. They claim there is conclusive evidence that shows the two handing out pro-Fidel Castro materials.
Cruz Sr. supported Castro and participated in pro-Castro events and activities. He now repudiates this view, stating:
“When people ask me why I supported Castro in overthrowing the Cuban government, I readily admit that I didn’t realize he was a communist.”
There are also photos of Cruz Sr. in a pro-Castro rally in 1959, and even an article that Cruz Sr. wrote for his student newspaper supporting Castro.
The mystery photo itself is dated August 1963, and it shows Oswald distributing pro-Castro literature. Until now, the man in the center of the photo was not identified, but the National Enquirer said that they believe there is definite proof showing that it was Cruz Sr..
The National Enquirer hired photo experts to determine if the person was in fact Cruz Sr..
Mitch Goldstone, CEO of ScanMyPhotos, a digitizing photo service, explained:
“There’s more similarity than dissimilarity. . . . it looks to be the same person and I can say as much with a high degree of confidence.”
UCLA forensic psychiatrist and expert witness, Carole Lieberman, also compared the mystery picture to another picture of Cruz Sr. and stated that, “they seem to match.”
Gus Russo, another expert who has written extensively about JFK and Oswald, is more skeptical. He says:
“It’s very subjective. It’s not proof. It’s just an opinion. To charge something this big, you’d better have better proof than that ‘it looks like him.’”
The Cruz campaign had some harsh words about the accusations by commenting:
“This is another garbage story in a tabloid full of garbage . . . The story is false; that is not Rafael in the picture.”
We may never know the truth. The National Enquirer is not exactly objective, as the paper has endorsed GOP front runner Donald Trump. The newspaper has however broken many legitimate political scandals before, like the affair John Edwards was having and Rush Limbaugh’s opioid addiction.
The newspaper suggested that they were approached by someone regarding the pictures and stated:
“In this instance, we believe American voters have a right to know the truth about the Cruz family.”
Regardless of the pictures, it’s pretty clear that Ted Cruz would be disastrous for the United States. His dad doesn’t need to stand next to a murderer to prove that.
