Racist Tweets Emerge Over Harriet Tubman On The $20 Bill (Language Warning: NSFW)

We learned this week that Harriet Tubman will be memorialized on the $20 bill. The U.S. Treasury decided this after an online vote. Naturally, people took to Twitter to vent about it. It has been met with a mixed reaction. Some people are saying she’s not important enough. Some right-wingers are opposing Andrew Jackson being removed from the bill; they would rather have a slave owner than an abolitionist. Even Ben Carson said that she should not be put on there. He said she should go on the $2 bill, but $2 bills are hardly even used anymore.

Here are some of the ridiculous racist tweets about Harriet Tubman being put on the bill.

Here’s a horrible pair. This first tweet is just crying wolf. The United States is not going to become a “3rd world shithole” because a woman of color is set to appear on the $20 bill. It’s hard to believe this kind of racism still exists. The other tweet is calling Tubman a “commie slave stealer.” What?! It sounds like Robert A. wants slavery back.

Is this where we’re going now?! Not only does he call Tubman a “mudskin,” but he claims this is a war on whites. Putting a black person on the money is not a “war on whites;” it is one tiny step toward reflecting the diversity of our nation’s population.

I shouldn’t be surprised. A Food Stamp joke:

Upon further Twitter search, I’m discovering that many people are tweeting against Harriet Tubman on the bill with the tag “WarOnWhites.” It’s 2016! No one is waging a war against white people.

This is absolutely infuriating. White genocide?! We are not killing white people. Here is a highly racist infographic someone made about this concept:

This guy seems to think that it’s okay to compare Harriet Tubman to Aunt Jemima…

And then there was this one…

This is a historical event either way. This is the first time a woman will be on the currency. She is a very influential figure and deserves her place in history.
