Torture-Happy Trump Wants To Throw Out The Geneva Convention

Donald Trump has talked before about torture. He said, “of course waterboarding is bad, but it’s not like chopping off heads.” He also considers the Geneva Convention a “problem:”

“The problem is we have the Geneva Conventions, all sorts of rules and regulations, so the soldiers are afraid to fight. We can’t water board but they can chop off heads.”

Here is his further defence of the technique in an op-ed in USA Today:

“Though the effectiveness of many of these methods may be in dispute, nothing should be taken off the table when American lives are at stake. The enemy is cutting off the heads of Christians and drowning them in cages, and yet we are too politically correct to respond in kind.”

Many U.S. military commanders have come out against torture out of fear that our enemies would do the same to our soldiers. They are also against it because torturing prisoners often results in inaccurate information obtained. Torture is also banned by the U.N.

A former interrogator has come out against torture as well saying it has cost “as many lives as 9/11.” The writer (who remained anonymous) said that switching to a rapport-based interrogation method yielded better results.

The failed torture techniques used included:

“….waterboarding so severe it produced convulsions, sleep deprivation so prolonged it induced hallucinations, the slamming of detainees into walls, the denial of medical care and unnecessary rectal feeding.”

The CIA reports said that torture was ineffective in getting information. There was a report done by some professors at Reed College said that opposition to torture has actually increased in the years since 9/11.

International law experts say while Trump could theoretically legalize torture, it would be one of the biggest foreign policy blunders of all time. To do so, Trump would have to rescind Obama’s executive order banning it. Ted Cruz doesn’t consider waterboarding to be torture at all, so either of the candidates would probably legalize torture if elected. Donald Trump’s son has even said that water boarding is no different than the hazing that occurs in fraternity houses.

These guys are seriously bad for the country. We need to keep these idiots away from the Oval Office at all costs.
