You Won’t Believe Who Pulled This Neo-Nazi From A Car Crash And Saved His Life

When trauma strikes, we do not tend to look too closely at those who are brave enough to offer their help. A neo-Nazi politician learned this firsthand when, not far outside of Frankfurt, he swerved off of the road and suffered a car crash.

The politician, a Stefan Jagsch, is a member of the National Democratic Party, an extreme right group within Germany that maintains a hard, xenophobic stance against refugees. According to The Independent Jagsch has posted on his Facebook to ‘stop the aslyum flood’, ‘integration is genocide’, and that ‘the boat is full’.

Imagine his surprise when he discovered, after the crash, that the two men who pulled him from the wreckage and provided first aid until medical personnel arrived were Syrian refugees.

While the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has maintained a policy of welcoming in refugees, with over one million men, women, and children having entered the country as of late January, it has not come without its challenges. The refugees have faced backlash from local anti-immigration groups, with the NDP, who are facing a trial to be outright banned within the country, in particular.

A chief officer within the NDP confirmed the event and said that the Syrian refugees had performed a ‘very good, humane act’. There’s no word on whether or not Jagsch, or any of his party, would admit that they were glad that the refugees were there in the first place, but too much irony shouldn’t be asked for.

It’s a moving moment that reminds us that when someone is in trouble, we have the capacity to suspend any worry or prejudice if they’re foreign or of a different culture than us. If they’re in trouble, all that matters is that they’re a human being who we have the ability to help.
