Michael Bloomberg has finally announced that he will not join the race for the White House. This was after several months of media rumors and public speculations.

The Trump Reason

According to a recent report by CNN, the former mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, has decided that he will not join the presidential race. He will no longer run as an independent candidate because running could mean indirectly benefitting Donald Trump.

Bloomberg believes that giving some political advantage to Donald Trump could threaten the stability and security of the nation. He said that if Trump is elected, it would be negative for the moral leadership credibility of the United States in the eyes of other countries.

Direct Quotations

Here is an excerpt of what Bloomberg wrote in his column:

“The end result would be to embolden our enemies, threaten the security of our allies, and put our own men and women in uniform at greater risk.”

“I love our country too much to play a role in electing a candidate who would weaken our unity and darken our future — and so I will not enter the race for president of the United States.”

Bloomberg’s Views

According to the report of Reuters, a clear majority would be unlikely in a three-person presidential election. The report said that Bloomberg potentially has an appeal to centrists and more moderate voters. He does not appeal to conservatives and liberals.

Bloomberg has liberal views on gun control. He also believes in business-friendly fiscal policies. However, his moderate views on other social issues did not have wider appeal to both conservatives and liberals.

He could have tipped the balance between political extremes had he decided to run because of his 12 percent approval in the polls.

Survey Results

A survey conducted by Reuters yielded the following results: 41 percent of the respondents said that they would support Hillary Clinton and 31 percent said that they would support Donald Trump.

Trump could be nominated by his party as the standard bearer for the November 2016 elections. He is currently a Republican frontrunner.

Bloomberg wrote in his column about his negative opinion about Sen. Bernie Sanders. The latter is a critic of free trade and the financial sector.
