WATCH: RNC Chairman Calls For ‘Dignity And Respect’ In GOP Debates

While it seems clear that RNC Chairman Reince Priebus has indeed been watching the GOP debates–filled with insults, one-liners, and references to the size of genitals–it seems a bit odd that he is only just now getting around to saying that the candidates need to clean up their act.

On “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” Priebus tried to play down fears of a brokered Republican convention and then decided to comment on the tone of the debates, most notably the last one in Detroit, Michigan:

“Well, look, you know, it’s a contentious primary. And obviously, George, there’s plenty of drama and intrigue. I agree. I think the tone should improve. And I would hope that at the next debate, things are improved over the last debate as far as tone and rhetoric. And I agree with every word that you just read from our growth and opportunity report. And I think it’s really important. I think dignity and respect is something that should be at the center of everything that we do.”

Gee, that sounds really good, Reince, but do you honestly think you can reel in someone as fond of personal attacks as Donald Trump, who just so happens to be the front-runner in your party? Are you planning to send him an email asking him to act with dignity and respect the next time he’s at a debate? Good luck with that!

The GOP needs to face facts: They have lost control of their own party, which has been hijacked by a racist who is more than willing to burn their beloved GOP to the ground if that’s what it takes to get him a few more points in the polls.

Dignity and respect? Those are gone. And they won’t be returning to the Republican party unless and until they toss Trump overboard.
