Hardball Host May Have to Answer For His Clinton Bias

The Host of MSNBC’s Hardball, Chris Matthews, might have finally revealed the motivation behind his overwhelming support of Hillary Clinton. Not surprisingly, it all comes down to money. Specifically, money used to fund the Senate campaign of Matthew’s wife, Kathleen Matthews.

Supporters of the Bernie Sanders campaign have been irate over Matthews’ taking cheap shots at their candidate while simultaneously lavishing support on Hillary Clinton. His perceived favoritism became so outlandish that they started a petition to have Matthews’ suspended from the network for the remainder of the campaign. The petition accuses Matthew’s of “Shilling for Hillary,” which goes against every aspect of the objective coverage viewers expect of the news network.

Matthews’ may have been able to brush off these accusations previously, but it has recently come out that the money being used to fund his wife’s Senate campaign was largely contributed by top Hillary Clinton donors and friends. The Daily Caller revealed that many of Kathleen Matthews’ biggest donors, “have close ties to either the Clinton Foundation or the Clinton’s themselves.”

Last year, Matthews’ had promised his viewers that if his wife decided to run for office he’d remain transparent and disclose information pertaining to his involvement so his coverage would remain impartial. He seems to have neglected to mention, however, the donations ($1,569,092 by the end of 2015) his wife’s campaign has been receiving in his rush to endorse Hillary Clinton as the next Democratic nominee.

Considering how few of the Pro-Clinton donors actually reside in Maryland, where Kathleen Matthews is running, it makes it hard to believe there is no conflict of interest at work here. It will be interesting to see how MSNBC responds to this new information. Meanwhile, the petition calling for Matthews’ suspension continues to gain traction, currently sitting at over 13,000 signatures.Well on its way to the 15,000, organizers are seeking.
