Do You Know Which Countries Are The Safest In The World?

Where do people feel most comfortable walking home at night? i100 just published statistics listing the safest places in the world, and the winner is… Norway! A whopping 86% of the population would comfortably walk home at night, without any fear of danger.

Spain is a close second with 85%, followed by Germany’s 80%, United Kingdom’s 79%, Ireland’s 75% and United States’ 72%. Sixth place is a respectable achievement on the list of selected OECD countries evaluated in the article.

The other side of the spectrum shows the most dangerous places in the world. Caracas in Venezuela is the most violent city according to Mexico Citizens Council for Public Security’s report. The city recorded 3,946 homicides, or 119.87 homicides per 100,000 residents.

The second most violent city is San Pedro Sula in Honduras with 111.03 homicides per 100,000 residents, followed by San Salvador in El Salvador with 108.54 homicides, Acapulco in Mexico with 104.73 homicides and Maturin in Venezuela with 86.45 homicides. The rankings are dominated by Central and Southern American cities, with Cape Town the only city outside these regions to feature in the top ten.

The U.S. is fairing well with “only” 59.23 homicides in St Louis and Baltimore, respectively. Of the top 50 cities, 32 were South American, 13 were from elsewhere in the Americas, 4 were South African and the other was Kingston, Jamaica.
