The Reason Mike Huckabee Is Attending Trump’s Event For Veterans Is Pathetic

Earlier today on CNN, Mike Huckabee announced he was attending Donald Trump’s event for veterans tonight during the Republican presidential debate. The reason he is going should not go over well with veterans at all. Speaking with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Huckabee showed just what kind of pathetic opportunist he is.

When Blitzer asked why Huckabee was attending Trump’s event for veterans, after his own appearance on tonight’s Republican presidential debate undercard, Huckabee had this response:

“Well it’s to honor the troops. You know it’s not an endorsement of Donald Trump’s candidacy, I’m still running for president, we’ve got the caucuses Monday night, but I’m delighted to join with Donald Trump in an effort to salute veterans. And you know what, I didn’t have anything going on at 8 o’clock tonight, I’ll be done, so I figured why not, let’s show the veterans our support.”

Seriously? So because Huckabee “didn’t have anything going on,” he figured he would show the veterans some support. Well don’t go out of your way or anything Mr. Huckabee. Also, nobody with a brain buys that you are supporting our veterans out of the goodness of your heart tonight. This is simply a publicity opportunity since Trump will be there.

In fact, later in the interview when asked about skipping the “primetime” debate, Huckabee says:

“I’m not invited to the main stage. I would love to have been on that stage. I think I should have been on that stage, but you know I’m gonna be on a stage earlier. You know if they’re not sitting out in the audience watching me, I don’t feel any compulsion that I have to be there for that debate. And quite frankly, as I say, I’m free at 8 o’clock.”

He even went so far as to send this tweet that takes a shot at President Obama:

Now we all know that President Obama has been a champion of veterans and has fought a Republican Congress to pass benefits legislation for our veterans.

Wow, that sounds like a man wanting some attention. Now I’m not doubting if he appreciates our veterans, but tonight it’s all about exposure. The exposure that Trump brings has even received the attention of another Republican puppet. CNN reports:

“Rick Santorum, another GOP rival, also said he will be attending the Trump event after he appears on stage during the undercard debate, according to a release from the Laura Ingraham Show.”

It seems the GOP has become a circus and Trump is the ringmaster. Unfortunately for them, veterans will not appreciate being used for political exposure. While the entire video is 9:42 long, Blitzer does actually show a member of a veteran’s group that clearly states his disdain for Trump’s political stunt.
