Donald Trump and his surrogates have now moved on from racism, xenophobia, and Islamophobia into the realm of sheer thuggery.
The Washington Post reports that Trump spokesman Corey Lewandowski threatened Fox News host and debate co-moderator Megyn Kelly not long after Fox said they would not concede to Trump’s demands that Kelly be taken off the panel for the next GOP debate.
According to a statement issued by Fox News:
“In a call last Saturday with a Fox News executive, Lewandowski stated that Megyn had a ‘rough couple of days after that last debate’ and he ‘would hate to have her go through that again.’ We can’t give in to terrorizations toward any of our employees… [Trump] can’t dictate the moderators or the questions.”
Fox News also noted in the statement regarding why Trump would not be participating in the next debate, which will be held on January 28, just three days before the Iowa caucus:
“Donald Trump is refusing to debate seven of his fellow presidential candidates on stage that night, which is near unprecedented. We’re not sure how Iowans are going to feel about him walking away from them at the last minute, but it should be clear to the American public by now that this is rooted in one thing — Megyn Kelly, whom he has viciously attacked since August and has now spent four days demanding be removed form the debate stage.”
What I find most revealing and pathetic about Trump refusing to debate because Kelly will be a moderator is this: He’s afraid of her? Really?! If it was some serious journalist who would ask tough questions–say the late Mike Wallace or the always-tough Dan Rather–I might could understand his reluctance. But Megyn Kelly? What is he so afraid of? That she will draw attention to his rampant misogyny and total disregard and respect for women? Isn’t he man enough to take some grilling from the media?
And the simple answer is, No. No he isn’t. Trump may try to be phony brave and pretend tough, but he’s yellow to the core, a bully who cannot face a real adversary. He’s a wimp of epic proportions and should be ashamed of himself.
