A Southern Pastor: The Most Awesome Rape Prevention Strategy In The World

How can there can be so much misunderstanding over the idea of consent? And more importantly, how is it possible for anyone to blame the victim when an attack occurs.

  1. The Bible commands us to be kind, take care of each other, and act in ways which please God.

    Psalm 17:4

    But these other people’s deeds?
I have avoided such violent ways
by the command from your lips.

  2. No one has ever “earned” the right to sexual favors from anyone else. Intimacy is not a payment for dinner, a favor returned, or a promise kept.
  3. Not being an asshole is universal. You don’t need any sacred text to tell you that rape is bad. Just be a decent human being and don’t force yourself on other people.

Of all the risk reduction strategies in the world, the British have it totally figured out!

19 So let’s strive for the things that bring peace and the things that build each other up.

Melanie Tubbs is a professor, pastor, mother, Mimi, and true Arkansas woman. She lives with nine cats and one dog on a quiet hill in a rural county where she pastors a church and teaches history at the local university. Her slightly addictive personality comes out in shameful Netflix binges and a massive collection of books. Vegetarian cooking, reading mountains of books for her seminary classes, and crocheting for the churches prayer shawl ministry take up most of her free time, and sharing the love of Christ forms the direction of her life. May the Peace of Christ be with You.
