No Longer Mr Popular? Even Republicans Can’t Stand Ted Cruz

GOP Presidential hopeful Ted Cruz is no longer proving popular amongst fellow Republicans and former Sen. Bob Dole has gone so far as to state that “nobody likes” him.

During an interview on Wednesday Dole, who was the Republican Party’s presidential nominee in 1996, stated that if Cruz was the GOP presidential nomination it would result in “cataclysmic” and “wholesale losses” for the party across the country.

Dole said:

“If he’s the nominee, we’re going to have wholesale losses in Congress and state offices and governors and legislatures.”

Dole explained that Cruz has made enemies in Washington and said “I don’t know how he’s going to deal with Congress,” because “nobody likes him.”

Dole stated that he often questions Cruz’s “alliegiance to the party” because he chooses to refer to himself as a “conservative.” Dole said:

“I don’t know how often you’ve heard him say the word ‘Republican’ — not very often.”

Dole expressed his view that Donald Trump, who has become increasingly popular amongst Republicans, would make a much better presidential nomination for the Republican Party than Cruz.

Dole stated that Trump has “got the right personality and he’s kind of a deal-maker” meaning that he could “probably work with Congress” more successfully than Cruz could.

Although he thinks Hillary Clinton is beatable Dole has stated that she would “win in a waltz” in a general election against Cruz, demonstrating his lack of faith in the GOP presidential hopeful.

However, he hinted that he believed the Republican party would have a chance against Clinton if Trump was the nominee, stating:

“I think she’d be a pretty easy target in the general, if we nominate the right person.”

Last month Dole joked that if Cruz is voted the Republican Party’s presidential nominee then he may purposefully not vote next November. He said it would be difficult for him to vote for Cruz and that he “might oversleep that day.”
